Sruthan targets return in Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown

Next month's Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown is a potential target for Sruthan as he closes in on a return to action.

The dual Group Three-winning five-year-old has not been seen in competitive action since being touched off in the Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown in early May, but trainer Paul Deegan is pleased with his current condition.

Sruthan was always likely to sit out the summer, due to his preference for an easy surface, and he is ready to make his comeback when the ground is in his favour.

Deegan said: "He's in good order and we're just waiting for a bit of rain.

"He seems in very good form and it was always going to be the plan to run in the spring and the autumn.

"We're looking forward to a good and productive second half of the season and that (Desmond Stakes, August 13) would be an option if the rain comes."
