Racing in brief: Fahy plotting Lad campaign
Washington Lad could bid for compensation back at Galway after his fine effort in the big handicap chase at the Ballybrit track last week.
The nine-year-old was in the lead at the final fence in the William Hill Galway Plate only to be found out by the testing conditions that saw him tire into third place behind Ballyholland.
Now his trainer, Pat Fahy, has his eye on another big handicap chase over two and three-quarter miles at Galway's Autumn Festival in four weeks' time.
"We were delighted with his run in the Plate," said the Co Carlow-based handler.
"We will go back to Galway for another two-mile-six 0-140 handicap. We want to pick up a decent handicap and then let him off the year and come back for a spring and summer campaign."
Options open for Stoute aces
Plans are still to be firmed up for Conduit and Tartan Bearer, the Michael Stoute-trained duo who were first and second in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
The pair formed part of a famous day for Stoute, who also saddled Ask to take third -- the first time any trainer has completed that feat.
The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe remains an aim for Conduit, already a three-time Group One winner, but for Tartan Bearer, three times a runner-up in Group One company, the Juddmonte International at York is a possibility. Both colts are owned by Ballymacoll Stud.
"The Arc and the Breeders' Cup are obvious targets for Conduit," said Peter Reynolds, racing manager of the stud. "It will be a different plan with Tartan Bearer as he is more versatile with regards to trip."
Noseda eyes faster ground
Jeremy Noseda is prepared to wait until the ground firms up before finalising plans for Forgotten Voice.
The Royal Hunt Cup winner put a disappointing display in the mud at Doncaster behind him with a solid performance in the Sussex Stakes, finishing fourth behind Rip Van Winkle, Paco Boy and Ghanaati.
"It is obvious now that the ground compromised him that day at Doncaster," said Noseda.
"We will be looking to run him on as quick a ground as possible next time. We will leave him in the Juddmonte International Stakes. Other options are the Strensall Stakes and the Celebration Mile at Goodwood."
