McNamara is 'in good spirits'

The Aintree Grand National is a fine spectacle and a race that attracts the attention of millions of once-a-year punters but this year's race was put into perspective owing to the absence of Robbie McNamara who was due to ride Lord Windermere.

A fall at Wexford on Friday left McNamara with serious chest, abdominal and spinal injuries and Turf Club doctor Adrian McGoldrick said yesterday: "He was very stable overnight and in very good spirits. The next phase is recuperation and we'll take it from there."
