THE turning of a year brings with it the silly season for bookmakers as they'd nearly price up what month the two flies will race up the wall.
But as someone who has put in some time and effort to price up the possible events of 2013, we said we'd give them a bit of a look in tonight and see if there is any value to be found.
Looking ahead to the Cheltenham Festival, the in-form Nicky Henderson is just 6/4 to win the Champion Hurdle with Darlan, Grandouet, Oscar Whisky and Binocular among his leading candidates for that race.
With Long Run and Bobs Worth his leading duo for the Gold Cup, Henderson is only 13/8 for that and 6/1 to win both the Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle.
Boylesports are also offering 9/1 that he'd add the Champion Chase to those two and complete a memorable hat-trick.
An Irish winner of the Champion Hurdle is 3/1 but backers of this may be very reliant on Hurricane Fly who is available at 4/1, while after that memorable Lexus Chase last week a first Irish winner of the Gold Cup since 2006 is just 2/1.
Again, an Irish trainer horse to win both is 14/1, while an Irish Grand National winner at Aintree is 7/4.
More than nine Irish-trained winners at the Cheltenham Festival is the most likely outcome according to the betting as it is just 6/4, while six or less is 2/1 and seven to nine is the same price.
On the Flat, Frankie Dettori is just 7/2 to emerge from the Big Brother house and ride a UK or Irish Classic winner, while former jump jockey Graham Lee is 16/1 to ride a winner in the UK for Aidan O'Brien.
Jim Bolger's Dawn Approach is 10/1 to win both the English 2000 Guineas and the Epsom Derby, while Boylesports offer 25/1 about Kingsbarns doing that same double.
