Great to have Foxrock winning again as Thistlecrack amazes

The entertainment values were sky high for sports fans yesterday but the best television of all was watching Thistlecrack in the King George. He was just savage.

Any talk about him being a novice is well parked and all roads lead to the Gold Cup for him now after a breath-taking display of jumping in a top-class race. The faster he went, the better he was.

I'd say Thistlecrack is just an unbelievable horse to ride and it's just like the equivalent of getting into a really, really fast car and letting it rip along.

Fantastic

If Christmas is all about the racing, well then, racing is all about horses like Thistlecrack. He's just a pleasure to watch and it's fantastic to be able to watch a horse like him fulfil his potential.

At Leopardstown tomorrow, the Lexus Chase will attempt to throw up some Gold Cup candidates. It looks a good race but whether or not we'll see anything that can worry Thistlecrack, I highly doubt it.

That said, there's plenty of good horses running and I'd be siding with Valseur Lido over Djakadam.

I've always thought plenty of Valseur Lido and he had decent form last season but maybe just didn't get the clearest of runs. He obviously looked like he was going to win the Irish Gold Cup earlier in the year before crashing out at the last. However, he handles it around Leopardstown.

At Down Royal the last day, he was a very impressive winner and I just think he comes into the race in good form and may be able to catch Djakadam this time around.

Djakadam had a tough race in the John Durkan and won't have things easy here either as Valseur Lido jumps well.

He stays well and is going to be a tough nut to crack.

One who I think won't be cracked tomorrow is Vroum Vroum Mag.

I thought she ran a bit too keenly at Fairyhouse and was probably a shade fresh on her first run of the season, so that run and her last few bits of work will have taken that out of her.

I think she'll settle better tomorrow - even over three miles - and prove very hard to beat.

It could be a good season in the three-mile hurdling division, but Vroum Vroum Mag is high class and just makes it even stronger. You can expect her to get back to winning ways.

I was thrilled to get a winner up in Down Royal yesterday on Foxrock for my Dad, Ted, and owner Barry Connell.

Foxrock jumped away well and went a good gallop, which suited him as the trip was a bit short of ideal.

He handled it well and we were thrilled to see him win with the authority he showed at the finish.

Sparkle

Dad will talk to Barry now about future plans and where he'll go next but it was good to get him back to winning ways and see the old sparkle is still there. I was delighted to get the opportunity to ride him.

I'm looking forward to my first ride around Chepstow in the Welsh National and hope Baie Des Iles can run well for my husband, Ross, this afternoon, but it certainly looks a very good renewal of the race.

We'll still take any rain that falls between now and the off as she really wants a test of stamina.
