Great all set to go to War

The Great War
The Great War

NEWMARKET'S July meeting looks set to have a small but very select team coming from these shores and Aidan O'Brien is the only Irish-based trainer represented on the opening day of a meeting that will feature Eddie Lynam's Sole Power and Slade Power in Saturday's July Cup.

O'Brien could also be represented in the meetings showpiece but tomorrow it is two-time winner The Great War who will attempt to bounce back to winning ways after disappointing in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Great War is one of 12 in the Group Two Portland Place Properties July Stakes, with Ryan Moore taking the ride as Joseph O'Brien is still suspended.

Moore also rides Table Rock who will step out of handicap company to contest the listed Hastings Sir Henry Cecil Stakes.

Meanwhile, at Naas this evening Royal Ascot form will again come into the equation in the opener as David Wachman's Sexy Legs bids to open her account at the third time of asking.

The daughter of Dutch Art was runner-up on her debut and took her chance at Royal Ascot in Group Three Albany Stakes where she could only finish ninth despite being sent off the 9/2 favourite.

Wachman's Sexy Legs looks to have Jim Bolger's Cruidin to beat after her decent showing at Fairyhouse last week, while Aidan O'Brien introduces newcomer Toogoodtobetrue.

Wachman looks set to take another maiden at Naas tonight as Fire Stone should go one better than on her debut in the three-year-old and upwards fillies maiden.

A runner-up at Leopardstown three-weeks ago, with expected improvement from that run, Fire Stone should be the one to beat on this occasion.

Jim Bolger's horses are starting to hit top form at the moment and that run can continue at Naas later courtesy of Dunquin who shaped well enough at the Curragh first time out to suggest he is up to winning sooner rather than later.

Another trainer who is in great form at the moment is Ger Lyons and it is his Bilderberg who is the pick of the trappy looking Boston Access Supporting Console Fillies Race.

Despite the small field, little separates them on ratings but getting all the allowances, last week's impressive Fairyhouse maiden winner should go close to making it two wins in a week.

In the finale Andy Oliver's Panama Hat will be looking to make it four wins from four in less than a month.
