Good Cause that deserves support

ASCOT stages a very entertaining pre-Christmas meeting tomorrow afternoon that will, unfortunately, be without Big Buck's in the Long Walk Hurdle.

The Ladbroke is a very intriguing looking handicap though and one horse really jumps off the page and that is Galway Hurdle runner-up Cause Of Causes.

Gordon Elliott's consistent four-year-old has done plenty for a horse so young but seems to thrive in these big handicaps when he is usually a decent price.

For tomorrow's race he is a 14/1 shot and a big price at that and at the very worst he looks a good each way bet but the Betting Book are hoping that this is the day that he gets his head in front in one of those big handicaps.

Decent

Willie Mullins' Rattan may also run well at a decent price, but Cause Of Causes heads the Irish challenge with Davy Condon onboard.

Although the absence of Big Buck's is bitterly disappointing, from a betting point of view, the Long Walk Hurdle now makes appeal as there is no longer a 1/7 favourite.

Prospect Wells has the Ruby Walsh/Paul Nicholls factor, but take a chance on the Nick Williams-trained Reve De Sivola who followed up Big Buck's last time out, albeit at big odds as he reverted back over hurdles from fences.

Looking ahead to Leopardstown next week, the action on Wednesday features the ultra competitive Paddy Power Chase and in this keep an eye on Ted Walsh's Colbert Station who could run well at around the 10/1 mark.
