Geno can get off the mark at the fourth time of asking in the first division of the ebfstallions.com Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Catterick tomorrow.

Kevin Ryan's youngster enjoyed a very pleasing debut at York when second to Ann Duffield's speedy filly Rosina in June and made a fairly quick reappearance at Newcastle a couple of weeks later.

Sent off favourite at Gosforth Park he could manage only fourth and while a few subsequent winners have emerged from that race, it was still a disappointing display after such a good initial run.

He was back on song last time out at Haydock, though, when second only to John Gosden's Force, who was thought highly enough of to run in the Chesham at Royal Ascot.

The step up to six furlongs seemed to suit Geno and he should take all the beating.

In the second division Robert Cowell's Zain Emperor looks the one to be on. He made his debut in the same Haydock maiden won by Force and it was a very promising effort.

Cowell is not really known for having first time out winners so the fact he showed up so well bodes well for his future.

Given normal improvement he can surely win a race sooner rather than later.

At Carlisle the Duffield-trained Ninetta can go one better than on her debut in the Baines Wilson LLP Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

Duffield has had a good year with her juveniles but this one looks a more longer term prospect, being a niece to the Arc winner Peintre Celebre.

While there is no doubt she will get further in time, she made her debut over seven and a half furlongs, beating all bar Richard Fahey's Zaina Rizeena.

Carlisle should help bring her stamina into play and a victory could see her take up an engagement in one of the valuable sales races.
