Galway Races 2015: Punts got the Hint in Topaz Mile
HINT Of A Tint was sixth when running in the Topaz Galway Mile last year but a return to the same race last night on what was her first run of the year provided connections with rich reward as she ran out a half-length winner of the €120,000 contest.
Trained by David Wachman and ridden by Wayne Lordan Hint Of A Tint could be backed at 10/1 if you shopped around yesterday morning and returned at 6/1 after some nice support for the filly who was having her first run of the season.
“She did it well and Wayne gave her a good ride,” said Wachman afterwards. “It’s a pity Fran Berry couldn’t ride her as he usually does but he just couldn’t do the weight.”
Wachman was continuing his excellent season which saw him win an English Classic for the first time back in May and he admitted that he hoped Hint Of A Tint would be best without a run.
“I took a chance that she was best fresh and came straight here and we took a chance with the race being worth a lot of money. It was a good performance.”
There was a very smart performance from the Michael O’Callaghan trained Now Or Never who eased to a five-length victory over favourite Simannka in the Topaz Fillies Maiden over seven-furlongs.
A runner-up on debut, Now Or Never made her experience count and looks destined for bigger and better things now for a trainer who himself looks likely to rapidly move up the ranks.
“We always liked her a lot but she doesn’t do much at home and is very laid-back so it was hard to know how good she is but she has a lot of good entries in races like the Moyglare and the Debutante,” revealed the Curragh-based trainer.
The Total Recall Racing Club have enjoyed plenty of success since starting out and their Beau Satchel followed up his win at the meeting last year by taking the Caulfield Industrial Handicap for trainer Aido McGuinness and denying the locally trained Cairdiuil right on the line under Gary Halpin.
