Cheltenham 2015: Patrick Mullins deserves his chance in the Gold Cup
Patrick Mullins will have his first ever ride in the Cheltenham Gold Cup tomorrow afternoon after landing the plum ride on last years runner-up On His Own.
Willie Mullins has three runners in the race and with Ruby opting for Djakadam, Paul Townend aboard Boston Bob and David Casey booked to ride Home Farm for Henry de Bromhead, Mullins decided that his 24-year-old son was the most appropriate rider for the horse.
Mullins told The Herald: “David was committed to ride Home Farm for Chris Jones and I looked among our riders and thought that Patrick deserved the ride on him, that he’d suit Patrick down to the ground and Patrick would suit him.”
Mullins admitted that it would be a nice moment to give his on a leg up in the Cheltenham Gold Cup but insisted: “It’ll be nice but he’s not getting the ride because he is my son, it’s because he has earned it.
