Heffernan twins prove perfect match
STEAMING cups of tea among the audience. The atmosphere crackled.
St Peregrine's (inset) and Erin's Isle in the Dublin Division 3 Féile final.
Nil-all at the break. Brilliant defending. Mighty scrambles.
Molly Brown lit up O'Toole Park. A Finglas Flier. She had the crowd on their toes. Pace, balance and such a pure striker of the ball. It was Niamh Heffernan who popped over the opening point from the left at the road end.
Maybe it would prove the golden one. But back stormed Isles and magnificent Molly equalised with a gem.
Extra-time looked more than a likely prospect. Peregrine's moved down the left.
Aoife Deegan centred, and there, plucking the ball out of the sky was Aoife Heffernan.
And with the deftest of touches, the ball was dancing in the sack.
And that was it. Peregrine's 1-1; Isles 0-1.
Niamh and Aoife are twins. Their Dad, Pat, is a mentor with the side.
"What a fantastic match," announced Gerry O'Sullivan. "Two fantastic teams. Well done to all concerned," he added.
