Grand Canyon can make the grade for Willie and owners

With No More Heroes running yesterday, it would appear that just six runners will go to post for the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle.

Four of which will be trained by champion trainer Willie Mullins and Nichols Canyon, the mount of Ruby Walsh, is the pick of the quartet.

Nichols Canyon ran a blinder to finish third behind Windsor Park at the Cheltenham Festival and proved he was a classy type when coming up to record a facile victory at the Irish Grand National meeting at Fairyhouse. A fine week for his owners Graham and Andrea Wylie can be sealed with a third Grade One success to follow on from Felix Yonger and Bellshill on the opening two days.

On The Fringe has won the Champion Hunters Chase at Punchestown on three occasions and punters will be hoping he scraps his tendency to only win it every second year by claiming the race for a fourth time and second year in a row tomorrow afternoon.

On The Fringe won the race as a six-year-old in 2010 and has shared it with Salsify every second year since but for whatever reason he appears in the form of his life this season and after their opening race success on the opening day, and with a real good chance in the La Touche today, Enda Bolger and Nina Carberry can strike again for JP McManus.

Rarely does Jessica Harrington train a 50/1 winner but that was the case here yesterday and that is just further testament to how well her horses are running at the minute. She can land another winner for the week with Burn And Turn in the Mares Handicap Chase that she won last year.

The opening race is a real local favourite at the Festival. Known as 'The Farmers Race', the Bishopscourt Cup is confined to horses owned by Kildare farmers and Hasty Times is selected to get the better of Rohan's Pride.

Ross O'Sullivan, who trains within walking distance of the racecourse, has his team in flying form and can prove that again here.
