Gonzaga taste the Ultimate in glory

"PLAYING the sport I love, with a great team of friends, in a super country, and representing Ireland; it really is the Ultimate fantasy" according to Conor O'Doherty, captain of Gonzaga College's Ultimate Frisbee team and reigning All Ireland Ultimate Frisbee Schools Champions.

Flying high after recently retaining their All Ireland Schools title, their fourth in six years, Gonzaga under head coach Mark Earley have become the most successful Ulitmate Frisbee schools side in the country.

Numerous students from the Sandford Road College have represented Ireland at various levels in a sport that's a self-refereed, non-contact team sport played with a frisbee.

Ireland's U20 squad who travel to Frankfurt in August to compete in the European Youth Ultimate Frisbee Championship include Gonzaga's O'Doherty, Brendan O'Connell, Richard Hurley, Andrew Cleary, Brian Connelly, Jack MacNamara, Mark Doody, Paul McDonough, Philip Johnston and Stephen Cabrera.

"Every year, Irish Ultimate is improving and the thrill of representing the country never dims" said O'Doherty.

It's onwards and upwards for Earley and his Ultimate chargers.
