Gilroy calls for Brogan
BERNARD Brogan will make his first start of the season for Dublin this Saturday against Monaghan in Parnell Park (7.30), after Pat Gilroy named three changes to the side which started against Mayo last Sunday.
Brogan, who grabbed Dublin's only goal of that match after his 47th minute introduction for Kevin McManamon, comes in for Kevin Bonner in the only alteration to the Dubs attack.
Until now, Brogan has been used as an impact sub in each of Dublin's three league victories, kicking a free against Kerry in the opening game of the competition and three (two frees) against Derry in round two.
The other switches see Rory O'Carroll and James McCarthy restored to defence after sitting out the trip to Castlebar.
Kilmacud Crokes man O'Carroll is named at full-back, with Mick Fitzsimons moving to the corner and Paul Conlon missing out due to the ankle injury he incurred last Sunday.
McCarthy slots in at right half back in place of Hugh Gill, a late replacement for captain Paul Griffin last week.
Both O'Carroll and McCarthy were rested against Mayo after lining out for the Dublin U21s in their Leinster championship defeat of Louth last Saturday, though Gilroy has decided to play both against Monaghan despite the looming Leinster U21 semi-final meeting with Carlow next Wednesday.
No fewer that 15 players are on Dublin's injury list and unavailable for selection, namely Alan Brogan (scaphoid), Barry Cahill (abductor), Conal Keaney (quad), Griffin (back), Ross O'Carroll (quad), Michael Savage (hamstring), Conlon (ankle) Bryan Cullen (back), Darren Daly (ankle), Denis Bastick (ankle), Mark Davoren (knee), Tomás Quinn (foot), Blaine Kelly (virus), Dean Kellu (virus) and Eoghan O'Gara (groin).
