Walsh non-plussed by Galway's free count
KEVIN WALSH admits he didn't realise his Galway team had been so foul-happy during yesterday's underwhelming 1-13 to 0-8 victory over Leitrim in their Connacht SFC quarter-final at Carrick-on-Shannon.
Damien Comer's wonderful fetch and finish for a 33rd minute goal eased the visitors into a 1-7 to 0-3 interval lead, but the most remarkable thing about the second half was a reported free count of 29 against Galway, 42 in total.
"That's the first I've heard of it. I'd have to sit back and assess that," was the non-committal reaction of Walsh.
By contrast, Leitrim boss Shane Ward accused Galway of being "very negative" in that second half.
In the Nicky Rackard Cup, holders Tyrone held on for an 1-21 to 0-20 extra-time quarter-final win over Fingal at Swords in a repeat of last year's final.
