Voices from Croke Park
ENOUGH space left for a shameless plug? Here goes. The Gaelic Players Association yesterday launched 'Voices From Croke Park, The Stories of 12 GAA Heroes'.
This collection of essays charts the journey of 12 former footballers or hurlers -- most of them household names in even non-GAA households.
We're plugging the book not because this scribe penned one of the stories (honestly!) but for altogether more altruistic reasons -- royalties from sales will go to the GPA's Past Players Benevolent Fund.
The players featured are: Mikey Sheehy (by Tom Humphries, Irish Times); Tony Keady (by Vincent Hogan, Irish Independent); Peter Canavan (by Brendan Crossan, Irish News); DJ Carey (by Garry Doyle, News of the World); Liam McHale (by Frank Roche, Evening Herald); Michael Duignan (by Brian Jaffray); Bernard Flynn (by Kieran Shannon, Sunday Tribune); Eamonn O'Donoghue (by Diarmuid O'Flynn, Irish Examiner); Ciarán Whelan (by Philip Lanigan, Irish Mail On Sunday); Gerard McGrattan (by Dermot Crowe, Sunday Independent); Anthony Molloy (by Karl O'Kane, Irish Daily Star); and Jimmy Barry-Murphy (by Denis Walsh, Sunday Times).
