U16s book final slot after crushing Cavan
DUBLIN'S under-16s have booked their place in the All-Ireland decider against Cork after a comprehensive 6-13 to 0-2 victory over Cavan in Ashbourne on Saturday.
The young Dubs led by 0-6 to 0-1 at the break but a blitz of goals simply blew the Cavan girls away. A hat-trick of goals from Amy Conroy, two off the boot of Emma Colgan and another by Hannah O'Neill meant the result was beyond doubt long before the final whistle.
Dublin manager Pat Kane was realistic in the aftermath: "It was emphatic in the end but we couldn't shake Cavan in the first half.
"Early in the second half we got a run on them and it was all over from there. It does help build confidence among the players. But from a manager's point of view, you'd be thinking that we'd probably need to start better against Cork in two weeks' time."
Indeed, the challenge now is to keep the emphasis right in training and keep the players' feet firmly on the ground.
"It's two weeks now to the match so now it's about keeping them balanced and keeping them ticking over," Kane explained. "But in fairness the girls have worked hard and it's all about them.
"They've certainly put in the work and that in itself will give us a chance against Cork who will be favourites."
