The county's top hurlers and footballers were honoured in the capital's Radisson Hotel yesterday.

Niall Quinn was the MC for the annual Dublin Bus/Herald Dubs Stars Awards Lunch.

And the former Irish international declared that "if I had met Alan Brogan before his retirement announcement, I would have urged him to continue for one more year."

It was a very good year for Ballyboden St Enda's, who won their third Dublin Senior Football Championship title, and their first Leinster crown.

"It would be great if they could now go all the way," stated Quinn.

The Boden captain, Darragh Nelson, earned the Dubs Stars Footballer of the Year accolade. He had an outstanding campaign at centre half-back.

"Our focus now is very much on the All-Ireland semi-final against Clonmel," remarked Darragh.

Cuala also had a memorable campaign, winning the Dublin Senior Hurling Championship for the fourth time and reaching their first Leinster final.

Their assured full-back, Cian O'Callaghan, the Dublin U21 captain, was selected as the Dubs Stars Hurler of the Year.

Looking on was his Dad, the former Dub, Maurice O'Callaghan.

"Winning the club's first Senior Hurling Championship title in 21 years was just brilliant," reflected Cian.
