Ryan trio edges O'Toole's past Na Fianna

O'Toole's moved closer to a quarter-final berth after accounting for Na Fianna by 4-10 to 1-11 in their Dublin SHC Group 1 encounter in Parnell Park last night.

Niall Arthur opened the scoring in the third minute for O'Toole's with AJ Murphy bringing Na Fianna level before an excellent point by Joseph Boland inched the Glasnevin outfit ahead in the sixth minute.

Boland's third of the night added to his repertoire but the game changed in the 26th minute as Liam Ryan netted for O'Toole's and the same player added a cracking second to help his side to a slightly fortuitous 2-5 to 0-6 interval lead.

Early second-half points by Sean Ryan and Murphy offered Na Fianna some hope but a brace of Christy Mulligan scores in addition to efforts from the Arthurs kept them at arm's length.

A Shane Barrett goal revived their ambitions but Ryan's superb third goal effectively settled the contest.

Across in O'Toole Park, a last-gasp goal from Fearghal Duffy kept Ballinteer St Johns' last eight ambitions alive as they defeated Faughs by 2-14 to 1-16.

St John's led by 1-11 to 1-4 at the break with Joe Maher netting a scrappy goal and although Faughs dominated the second-half, Ballinteer edged the contest with Donal Gormley outstanding at full-back.

SHC: O'Toole's 4-10 Na Fianna 1-11; Ballinteer St John's 2-14 Faughs 1-16. SHC 'B' St Peregrine's 0-10 Kilmacud Crokes 1-16.
