McManamon on fire as St Jude's prove too strong for Brigid's
Dublin SFC RND 2: St Jude’s 0-13 St Brigid’s 0-9
St Jude's dominated from the outset to claim a well-merited four point success over St Brigid's in their Dublin SFC second round encounter at O'Toole Park last Saturday evening.
Despite the relatively narrow margin at the final whistle, St Jude's were superior in almost every aspect with Kevin McManamon leading the line superbly as he accrued eight points over the hour.
The platform for the win was provided by the solidity of their midfield pairing of Colm Murphy and Seamus Ryan while their defence excelled as a unit, conceding just three scores from play. McManamon and Philly Ryan traded frees inside the opening ten minutes but St Jude's gradually took control through points by Murphy, McManamon and Tom Lahiff before a McManamon '45' in the 26th minute left the Templeogue outfit four points clear.
Ronan Joyce and Cathal Doyle exchanged points approaching the break with a late free from Paddy Andrews trimming the St Brigid's arrears to 0-9 to 0-4 a the interval.
St Brigid's were offered a degree of hope upon the restart as Andrews and Ryan shared three points to leave just two points between the teams but St Jude's regrouped impressively with McManamon proving unerring from placed balls.
The dismissals of Barry Cahill and John O'Loughlin added to Brigids' woes as McManamon kicked a great score in injury time.
