mccrabbe inspires craobh to find 'a' grade

Alan McCrabbe gave an inspired performance when helping Craobh Chairáin to get the better of St Brigid's by 3-13 to 2-12 in their Dublin Senior Hurling Championship Group 1 clash at Parnell Park last night.

In a scrappy opening, Brigid's failed to take advantage of some promising positions, registering two wides before McCrabbe opened the scoring in the 5th minute from Craobh's first attack.

Paul Winters and McCrabbe traded frees as the half progressed with Brigid's finally scoring from play through an excellent point from wing-back Niall Scanlan in the ninth minute.

The contest remained similarly tight for most of the first quarter with Winters and Brendan Lyng inching Brigid's ahead with Chiaráin's levelling matters in the 15th minute.

However, the momentum turned towards the Donnycarney outfit for the ensuing five minutes with Robbie Mahon and McCrabbe before the latter put daylight between the sides with an unstoppable finish past Alan Nolan from the tightest of angles in the 19th minute.

A Mark Kavanagh point helped steady the St Brigid's ship and they were further boosted as Pat Rohan got the final touch in a goalmouth scramble to revive his side's fortunes.

McCrabbe was proving the game's most influential performer and he added another cracking point before a brace of Winters frees trimmed Craobh's lead to just 1-9 to 1-8 by the interval.

The early stages of the second-half mirrored those of the opening period with both sides guilty of errant shooting and passing with Craobh dealt a massive blow as Stephen Kirwan was dismissed for an injudicious challenge on Conor Morris in the 36th minute.

Craobh's numerical disadvantage was beginning to show with Winters and Daire Plunkett handing St Brigid's the lead but after McCrabbe had landed four frees on the bounce, Craobh moved clear through late goals from Mahon and Kieran McGouran, sandwiched by a goal from a free by Winters.
