SEVERAL on-the-ball Laois gamblers have stung a leading bookmakers by betting on a club SHC encounter that had already finished, writes Frank Roche.

It's understood that Paddy Power was hit for over €2,500 after eagle-eyed punters spotted that the bookies had listed the weekend game for a 7.30pm throw-in, even though it threw in at 2pm. Fans watched Castletown defeat Borris-in-Ossory by 3-16 to 2-11 before then backing the winners at 1/3. Staff in Paddy Power were alerted to the situation on Sunday evening because of an unusual amount of activity on the game but agreed to pay out, and the company has decribed it as a "cock-up" that hopefully "won't happen again."

p WATERFORD hurling legend Dan Shanahan, their goalscoring super-sub in the Munster final replay, admits that this will likely be his last season with the Déise.
