JOE BROLLY admits that he is "still cringing" over his on-air insult of Marty Morrissey last Sunday.

Writing in his Gaelic Life column, the controversial pundit reiterated his regret over his Sunday Game faux-pas in which he compared Cavan's "ugly" style of football to the popular RTÉ commentator.

"Myself and Tomás Ó Sé had been having a laugh with stewards and supporters outside just before we went on air. All jokes and craic," Brolly wrote.

"Tomás texted me on the Monday morning to say 'Had a great laugh yesterday Joe. If every day's work was like that I'd live 'til 100.'

"Problem is that when we went on air a few minutes later, it wasn't the Oliver Callan Show, but the Sunday Game.

"Marty Morrissey is a decent, good humoured man. When I apologised to him he was quick to accept it.

"But there is no doubt he was hurt. It was a very poor thing to say and I am still cringing about it as I write this," concluded the Derry All-Ireland winner.

His latest act of contrition follows Wednesday's statement from RTÉ group head of sport Ryle Nugent, which confirmed that Brolly was "fully cognisant of the fact that similar comments in any future broadcast cannot and will not be tolerated."

Rebel blow as Shane Kingston ruled out

THE Cork minor hurlers have suffered a major injury setback with the loss of their inspirational skipper, Shane Kingston.

Kingston broke his fibula in a challenge game against Clare on Wednesday night and will now miss the Rebels' Munster MHC semi-final against Limerick on July 1.

Moreover, the talented dual player is unlikely to recover for the All-Ireland series in the event that Cork advance.

The Douglas clubman underlined his importance last April when amassing 1-9 during Cork's first round victory over Limerick, who won't now have to face him again in their Gaelic Grounds rematch.
