Evan Niland struck nine points as Galway lifted the All-Ireland minor title for the tenth time following their 4-13 to 1-16 victroy over Tipperary at Croke Park yesterday.

The Clarinbridge clubman converted eight frees on a day when Galway's greater firepower sealed the deal.

Niland also finished the summer with a championship haul of 0-31.

It was 1-07 to 0-10 at half-time, Galway's first goal came courtesy of Brian Concannon.

But, they ran dominated on the resumption and further goals from sub Liam Forde, Cianan Fahy and sub Michael Lynch saw the men from the west to victory.

Goalkeeper Darragh Gilligan was also instrumental for the victors, executing three superb stops.

After exchanging points with Tipperary's Stephen Quirke, Niland whacked over a terrific free into the Davin End from under the Hogan Stand to establish a lead that would never be relinquished and Galway moved four points clear when sub Forde hammered his shot to the roof of the net in the 38th minute.

Niland drilled over another brilliant free and the Tribe pounced for their third goal on 40 minutes, with Fahy rifling to the net to leave eight points between them - 3-10 to 0-11 - and they never looked in trouble thereafter.
