History and statistics weigh in Dublin's favour

Dublin have amassed an impressive 9-43 in their two championship matches to date and have only conceded 0-24 in those successive wins against Longford and Kildare.

Bernard Brogan is their marksman-in-chief to date as he has accrued 3-9 with all his scores coming from play while Dean Rock has chipped in with 2-10 (0-6f, 0-2 '45').

Westmeath have been similarly rampant in front of goal as they have scored 7-54 in their wins over Louth, Wexford and Meath.

John Heslin has been in sublime form from both open play and frees and he has contributed 1-23 (0-15f) for his side including his match-winning 1-9 against Meath. Kieran Martin is another player involved this Sunday seeking his fourth goal of the championship while Shane Dempsey has accrued a valuable 1-8 in those three wins in which 12 players have found the target.

Dublin: B Brogan 3-9, D Rock 2-10 (0-6f, 0-2 '45'), D Connolly 3-3 (1-0pen), C Kilkenny 0-7, P Flynn 1-3, A Brogan 0-3, K McManamon, P McMahon 0-2 each, B Fenton, T Brady, E Lowndes, P Andrews 0-1 each.

Westmeath: J Heslin 1-23 (0-15f), K Martin 3-5, S Dempsey 1-8, R Connellan 1-3, C McCormack 1-1, J Connellan 0-4, P Sharry 0-3 (0-2 '45'), G Egan, D Glennon 0-2 each, D Daly, J Dolan, J Gilligan 0-1 each.

Should Dublin confirm their favouritism and prevail against Westmeath this Sunday in Croke Park, it will mark their 54th provincial title at senior level.

Their first success arrived back in 1891 with their longest barren run lasting 13 years, between 1942 and 1955.

In contrast, Westmeath have the solitary success to their name when Páidí Ó Sé famously led the county to victory in 2004.
