Fab Fourteens enjoy competitive jousts with Cork
DUBLIN U14 FOOTBALLERS
DUBLIN'S Under 14 north and south footballers enjoyed a series of competitive matches against two Cork selections in their inter-county encounters at Kilworth last Sunday.
The south selection came out on the right end of two tight affairs, prevailing by 2-12 to 2-9 in their opening fixture. Anthony Quinn proved highly impressive in that first match, accruing four points from wing-forward, while his club-mate Conor Kinsella also shone from centrefield, creating chances for Kevin Quinn of Geraldine Morans, who chipped in with 1-1.
The second match was similarly close with 2-2 from Pádraig Purcell from Kilmacud proving crucial as the Dubs registered a 3-9 to 2-8 win.
Full-back Fiachra McLoughlin of Naomh Olaf and Éanna Torsney from Lucan Sarsfields were especially prominent on a positive day for Dublin manager Colm McGinty.
"We are very happy with what we saw today," said McGinty. "We travelled to Cork to get competitive matches and that is exactly what we got. We learnt a fair bit about the lads and that was encouraging."
The North team started brightly as they defeated their opponents by 5-13 to 3-2 with Aaron Behan, Ciarán Murphy, James O'Connell and Enda O'Donnell in fine form while Ciarán Archer chipped in with three goals.
The Dubs succumbed by 4-10 to 4-7 in their second match with Luke O'Malley, Sean Tuke, Donagh McNamara and Lee Gannon showing well throughout.
