Dubs make four swaps
Boland, O'Callaghan, McMorrow and 'Dotsy' start against Waterford
Ger Cunningham has gone for broke with four personnel changes as he seeks to propel his Dublin hurlers past league champions Waterford and into an All-Ireland semi-final.
The Dubs last night unveiled their selection for tomorrow's opening quarter-final in Thurles (2.0), showing even more switches than were expected from the team that struggled at the outset of their comeback victory over Limerick.
Joey Boland's return for his first start this summer is the most eye-catching change, but there are also recalls for the fit-again Cian O'Callaghan at full-back and Niall McMorrow at midfield, along with David O'Callaghan at corner-forward.
McMorrow had established his midfield credentials towards the end of the league only to suffer a thumb injury that required surgery. He now replaces Daire Plunkett, who scored two points on his own starting comeback against Limerick but has now reportedly fallen prey to injury.
Boland came off the bench against Limerick and now replaces Niall Corcoran, while Cian O'Callaghan indirectly replaces Shane Durkin, another injury doubt ahead of tomorrow's clash. The final change sees veteran attacker 'Dotsy' O'Callaghan rewarded for his goalscoring cameo, the last day, at the expense of Eamon Dillon.
Dublin may be 12/5 underdogs but Johnny McCaffrey isn't perturbed at the prospect of taking on the Déise in Thurles. "We know the Munster crowd are passionate people - and in fairness our Dublin support is coming good as well, and we're hoping a big support will come on Sunday for us," McCaffrey enthused.
