Door open for McGarrity to return: Horan
MAYO boss James Horan insists the door remains open for an inter-county comeback by long-serving midfielder Ronan McGarrity.
The Ballina Stephenites man was not included among the Mayo players working on individual pre-Christmas training programmes and is not currently training with the county panel.
But Horan has now explained: “Ronan is working on his fitness. I’ll be talking to him towards the end of January to see how he’s doing. There’s no set or finalised panel yet.
"One thing I’ve learned is to keep all our options open, especially when you’ve guys at inter-county level so dedicated and can return from injury quickly.”
Meanwhile, Mayo are likely to be without three of last year’s first-choice players for their opening NFL games against Laois and Dublin on February 4 and 11.
Trevor Mortimer is on work-related business in Africa, fellow defender Tom Cunniffe is understood to be in the United States while ’keeper Robbie Hennelly chipped a bone in his elbow playing for DCU in the O’Byrne Cup last weekend.
