Leinster conquered, next step Everest for the hurlers of Cuala.

The Dalkey trailblazers yesterday became only the second side from the capital to win an AIB Leinster club SHC title, ending a 37-year Dublin drought since Crumlin's success in the 1979/80 season.

They made history in style, with a nine-point victory over O'Loughlin Gaels, and were immediately installed as All-Ireland front-runners.

Boylesports have priced Cuala as 8/11 favourites to be crowned on St Patrick's Day, even ahead of their semi-final date with Slaughtneil in early February.

But Mark Schutte, whose injury-time goal crowned an emphatic 3-19 to 1-16 win over the Kilkenny champions, insisted they'll be taking nothing for granted against the Derry underdogs.

"Slaughtneil have done incredible things up in Ulster so they're going to be a huge task for us," Schutte warned. "We'll sit down over the next couple of weeks and look forward to that, but we'll enjoy tonight anyway."

The Dublin forward admitted they had been left "heartbroken" by last year's Leinster final loss to Oulart-The Ballagh and this had been a key motivation.
