Courageous 'Knock crash to Mary's

ST MARY'S, New Ross 5-5, Castleknock CC 3-3

St Mary's centre-half forward Joanne Dillon struck two late goals to ensure there would be no late comeback by Castleknock, who trailed by 3-4 to 2-2 at the interval in this Leinster Schools Girls Junior final in Carlow yesterday.

The eventual winners played with the wind in the first half, but that five-point lead at the break looked fragile. Chloe Fox hit the first goal for the Co Wexford girls while Aoife Ryan raised two green flags.

Castleknock replied with a penalty by Leah Mullins and another goal by Hannah Moran. When Eve Farrelly found the net in the 48th minute, there was only three points between the sides.

It was the New Ross school who kicked on, however, and those late strikes ensured the cup went to the south east.

Scorers - St Mary's: A Ryan 2-1 (0-1f); J Dillon 2-0; C Foxe 1-1; M Moran, K White, H Murphy 0-1 each. Castleknock CC: L Mullins 1-1 (1-0 pen); H Hanlon, E Farrelly 1-0 each, D Quearney, L Carolan 0-1 each.
