Canning is hungry for expansion
Joe Canning has welcomed the promise of extra hurling championship games - but says Croke Park should go even further.
GAA top brass are finalising proposals to introduce a round-robin format to the Leinster and Munster SHC, thus securing more games, home and away, for all Liam MacCarthy contenders.
"I am all on for it - the more games the better," said Galway ace Canning.
"I'd still like to see more games. I'd love to be guaranteed seven, eight games ... two weeks on, a week off, that kind of a thing."
He contrasted this potential scenario with that facing Waterford this year.
"Even chatting to Patrick Curran," he explained, "they've ten weeks between the league and championship. It's crazy really. We were playing 14 out of 16 weeks coming up to the league final. We'll probably play, max, six maybe for the rest of the year. Those figures don't stack up either."
