Callanan boost to Premier league goal

NHL DIVISION 1 SEMI-FINAL

TIPPERARY v WATERFORD

(Nowlan Pk, Tomorrow 4.0, live TG4)

IT has been a trying week for the Tipp camp, mounting injury issues overshadowed by the news that Noel McGrath, their supremely gifted forward, was to undergo surgery for testicular cancer.

So they were probably due a break and thus came Thursday night's minor bombshell that Séamus Callanan had been cleared by the Central Appeals Committee to face Waterford in tomorrow's NHL Division One semi-final. The All Star attacker had lost an earlier CHC hearing to have his Offaly red card rescinded ... his belated reprieve is good news to Eamon O'Shea as he plots a way to beat, or even circumnavigate, a Déise defence that has been compared in some quarters to hurling's version of Donegal. Fresh from conquering 1B and then Galway, Derek McGrath's miserly young guns have been this year's league revelation. They'll seek to frustrate Tipp and it could be closer than you think.

ODDS: Tipp 4/9 Draw 10/1 Water 11/5

VERDICT: Tipperary
