Brilliant Flynn goal sees off Royal bid

A wonder goal from Neil Flynn, seconds after Ruairí Ó Coileáin was denied at the other end by a splendid Colin Heeney save, cemented Kildare's progression to the EirGrid Leinster U21 football final.

Flynn came up with a stunningly-composed finish after beating four defenders with a blistering run and that gave them enough breathing space to see out the game, which ended 2-15 to 0-13 in favour of the Lilywhites.

Flynn gathered possession just outside the 20 metre line before embarking on an arcing run. His side-footed finish to the roof of the net was immaculate.

It was crucial as though Kildare did go seven points ahead with that goal, Meath kicked four points to reduce the margin to a goal, before substitute Cein McMonagle finished for an injury-time goal.

Leinster U21 FC semi-finals: Longford 3-7 Dublin 2-15; Meath 0-13 Kildare 2-15.

Connacht U21 FC semi-final: Roscommon 6-18 Sligo 0-12.

Munster U21 FC semi-finals: Cork 1-12 Kerry 1-9; Tipperary 0-15 Clare 0-7.
