Brennan set for mid summer return from injury
JIM Gavin has set "the end of June/early July," as the date for Ger Brennan's return to playing after a recent operation on his Achilles tendon.
The influential St Vincent's centre-back (inset) nursed the persistent problem all through the club's most recent run to the All-Ireland club semi-final and hasn't kicked a ball for Dublin in a competitive match since the 2013 All-Ireland final.
"He had an operation recently," explained Gavin, deeming the procedure a success.
"It's a procedure to rectify his Achilles heel and it's really, really successful.
"So hopefully we'll see Ger back in the back end of June/early July. It's been a very positive two weeks for him.
We just took the decision to go for it. He misses the League, obviously. And the opening round of the Championship and wherever that brings us.
"Please God, if we're still involved, he'll partake in July."
Eoghan O'Gara will miss the rest of 2015 however, after rupturing his ACL in recent club duty and Gavin acknowledged that there was no ready made replacement for such an explosive forward.
"I know he has the physical attributes. He always had them," the Dublin boss said.
"But has really improved over the last few seasons and his decision-making really improved this year.
"The coaches were doing a lot of work with him in that regard and he was due to have a big season.
"Both phycially and mentally, he's a strong man.
"From speaking to him, a couple of hours after it and then when he got the news, he is a very determined man."
