Fred: It was worst defeat of my life
Fred has described Brazil's 7-1 World Cup semi-final defeat to Germany as "a scar that will forever live in all of our lives".
The Brazil striker looked as tearful and distraught as any of his team-mates after the humiliating loss in Belo Horizonte.
"It's the worst defeat of my career," said Fred.
"We made the worst game of our lives and Germany made the best of their lives.
"It is a huge disappointment because it's certainly the worst defeat of all our careers.
"It is a moment of great sadness and disappointment, but we'll have to hold on to the people who will help us in these difficult times we are going through now.
"It is a scar that will forever live in all of our lives, but we will have to seek a higher power to pass such adversity."
Fred has endured a miserable tournament personally and was booed by large sections of the crowd during the second half.
Throughout the tournament questions have been asked about the Fluminense player.
He may have won a crucial penalty for his team in their opening win against Croatia and scored in the 4-1 win over Cameroon, but when things fell apart against Germany, they were quickly forgotten.
Luiz Felipe Scolari took him off in what appeared to be a mercy substitution.
Yet even as he hid away on the bench, those watching the semi-final defeat weren't done. When he came up on the big screen the boos rang out again.
As if signifying their simple desire to see football played the right way, when Andre Schurrle scored a fine goal, and Germany's seventh, they applauded.
