Forgotten Rules can be highlight

There is some real good action at the Curragh on Sunday with the Group Two Beresford Stakes and the CL Weld Stakes being very informative guides for the future.

You always know that if you win the Beresford Stakes you have a good horse on your hands, and I remember thinking exactly that in 2008 when Sea The Stars won it and showed a lot of speed in doing so, despite the fact that it is over a mile.

Aidan O'Brien's Ol' Man River looks potentially to be a class horse and I would imagine he will set the standard in the Beresford.

However, I must admit that the one horse I really am looking forward to seeing run over the weekend is Dermot Weld's Forgotten Rules (pictured). He has only run twice, but I have never even witnessed a Flat horse come up the straight at the speed he did when winning his bumper at Punchestown - and I was beaten on Derby winner High Chaparral around Punchestown, although that was over six furlongs!

You just look at him beating those highly-rated horses around Galway on just his second start - and so impressively as well - and wonder where can the improvement end with him.

Judging by Forgotten Rule's profile so far, I'd be fairly certain that Dermot Weld already has his trip to Melbourne for another tilt at the Melbourne Cup planned with him for this time next year!
