Family fun guaranteed at Commercials home

THE Milky Bar Kids are getting ready to rumble.

The 'Hurl With Me' programme set sail from Croke Park. The children are counting down the days.

The National Dairy Council are the sponsors. Camogie President, Catherine Neary, launched the initiative.

It will take place at Commercials from June 6th. It's a most appropriate venue.

The Rathcoole club have long been masters of the ash. They have a proud history.

They were formed in 1886 by country folk who had come to Dublin to find work in the city's pubs and shops.

The club have produced many distinguished Dublin hurlers. And these days there's no shortage of talented tots. GPO, Peter Elliott, is doing a top job.

Commercials have enjoyed a camogie revolution. And they possess first-class facilities.

They include a fabulous Ball Wall. Dublin's hurlers have sharpened their touch there.

The 'Hurl With Me' is a health and education initiative for young players and their parents.

The idea is that the parent (or parents) comes with their daughter to training.

And while the children learn the skills on one side of the pitch, the parents will be taught skills on the other side. The sessions last for an hour. And for the latter part of the exercise, the parents will show their child the new skills they have learned.

It's a lovely idea and it will encourage more parents to get involved in the sport.

And maybe even become mentors in the future.

But one thing is for sure - mothers, fathers and daughters are all going to have a ball.
