Europe Cup glory for young Irish darts team in Denmark
For the first time ever, the Irish U18 darts team have won the WDF Europe Youth Cup.
Competing against teams from 16 countries in Vingsted, Denmark, the Irish began their campaign In the boys' pairs with Conor Heneghan and Mark Connolly losing out to the Dutch. All changed when the Irish faced the Dutch again in the boys' team final after dismissing Denmark and England on their way.
This time it was the Irish who came out on top. It meant that for the first time in the history of the competition, the Irish and the Dutch finished as joint overall champions.
Making up the boys team were team captain Dean Finn from Waterford, along with Ronan McDonagh from Sligo, Louth man Mark Connolly and Conor Heneghan from Mayo.
The girls' team of Leah Fox from Sligo and Carlow's Jamie O'Conor had no joy in the pairs, although O'Connor reached the last sixteen in the singles.
The next major international competition is September's World Cup in Turkey.
