'Derry worst pitch in league'
DERRY City man Patrick McEleney has backed up Pat Fenlon's complaints about the surface at the Brandywell, labelling it the worst pitch in the country, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.
Fenlon was highly critical of the playing surface as Rovers were frustrated with a scoreless draw in Derry last week and City stalwart McEleney says the pitch is also making things hard for the home side. "I can only try my best to create chances. I'm trying to make things happen and I'm working hard for the team," said McEleney.
"But it's hard on that pitch because that's probably the worst pitch in the league. It's an absolute shambles to be honest and it's not helping anybody. But that's really out of our control."
Fenlon feels it's a widespread issue. "The surfaces are very poor, not just in Derry - it's right across the board and this should have been sorted out before the season kicked-off so that we can all compete on a level playing field," said the Hoops boss, who has also been critical of the surface at Cabinteely.
