IT Was a successful Conference call to Galway for the England 'C' team as they enjoyed a 2-1 win over the Irish U21 side.

Noel King's U21 team face two England sides in the space of a week but it's first blood to England as their team, made up of Conference players, came out on top at Eamon Deacy Park.

The sides were level at half time, Ireland boss Noel King using the break to make changes to his side as Liam Bossin, John Kavanagh, Sean Kavanagh, Kyle Callan-McFadden and Maguire all came on.

The England side took control, however, and went 2-0 up in the space of two minutes midway through the second half.

Halifax Town man Matty Pearson gave England the lead on 65 miniutes and Aldershot's Jordan Roberts made it 2-0 just after that lead goal.

Sub Sean Maguire, who made his U21 debut against Andorra in March, clawed a goal back for Ireland on 81 minutes and the home side pressed for an equaliser, Pierce Sweeney going close after he was set up by Maguire.

But the second goal would not come and England held on for their win.

King and his squad now turn their attention to another clash with England on Friday as they face the Engish U21 side proper in a game to be played behind closed doors at the English FA's headquarters.

England boss Gareth Southgate is using that friendly with Ireland to warm up for the European U21 Championship finals.
