Clontarf feel heat at the top of AFL3

DUBLIN AFL3/4 ROUND-UP

Na Fianna kept up the pressure on Clontarf at the top of AFL3 thanks to an impressive 1-16 to 1-11 victory over Ballyboughal in North County Dublin on Saturday evening.

It means the Glasnevin men remain breathing down the necks of pace-setters Clontarf who made it eight from eight thanks to their hard fought 1-9 to 0-7 win over Whitehall Colmcille in Cloughran.

Ciaran Johnson's goal on 20 minutes proved the crucial moment in this one with Whitehall's stubborn defence proving difficult for the league leaders to break down.

Tarf also had fine performances in Ian Smith at midfield and full-back Damien Fennelly.

Elsewhere, Naomh Olaf returned to winning ways against Naomh Fionnbarra at Páirc Uí Bhriain. The home side racked up a total of 3-12 to Finbarr's 2-5, despite kicking 18 wides over the hour and being without a number of first team regulars.

Shane White hit 1-3 from full forward for Olafs, with centre forward Brian Begley finished with 2-1, with one goal coming from a penalty.

Perfect

St Vincent's and Garda maintained their push for a play-off spot with fine away victories over St Mark's and Ballyboden St Enda's respectively.

For Boden it means they remain rooted to the foot of the table, winless after eight matches.

It was also a tough weekend for Clanna Gael Fontenoy whose promotion chances suffered a major blow as they went down to St Brigid's 0-12 to 1-7.

Meanwhile, it's case of as you were at the top of AFL4 with both Ballymun Kickhams and Good Counsel maintaining their perfect records.

The Mun hit an incredible 9-17 to see off St Oliver Plunkett's/ER at Martin Savage Park while Counsel emerged from Chanel Park with a fine 2-17 to 0-10 win over Parnell's.

Alex Quinn and Barry Reilly hit the net for Counsel who also had stand-out performances from Robbie Ryder, Ben Quinn, Mick Mulligan and John O'Brien.
