Byrne to lead line at Blindness fundraiser

THE annual Fighting Blindness Sporting lunch will be held next Friday in The Westin Hotel, Dublin, on one of the most anticipated weekends in the sporting calendar as Ireland take on Wales in their opening Six Nations match at the Aviva Stadium.

Among the host of sporting guests, former Irish International Shane Byrne (pictured above) will once again be joined by fellow rugby legends and Fighting Blindness supporters to share the tips and quips on the expected outcome of the Six Nations scrap.

Traditionally, the lunch also celebrates the Hennessey Gold Cup, and while the racing weekend has been pushed out to the following weekend, stars from the racing world will join in the banter with guests to put their best predictions forward.

Funds raised through this event are crucial to the success of the charity’s groundbreaking research projects to find cures and treatments for retinal degenerative conditions in Ireland, where more than 100,000 people are affected by conditions such as Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Retinopathy and Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP).
