Boss says new-look Dublin team deserves praise

THE Leinster title is spending the summer in Dublin ..... for the fourth year in succession.

Dublin boss, Greg McGonigle, declares that the Jackies deserve more credit.

"People don't realise that we have won the Leinster Championship without eight or nine of the players who started in the All-Ireland final last September," states the county chief.

"Our young players have been doing well.

"In the Leinster final, I thought that Muireann Ní Scanaill showed wonderful leadership.

"Then you had Molly Lamb at midfield, who had an outstanding game, while Niamh Rickard came off the bench and kicked a point.

"That is what we have been building towards, and then we have the balance of the experienced players as well."

The Jackies will now wait to see which way the wind blows for their All-Ireland quarter-final on August 22.

Greg will be keeping a close eye on all the potential candidates.

"August was always the key date we set at the start of the year. We wanted to go the traditional route by winning the Leinster title.

"That helps with planning and stuff. We know we have a lot of work to do. The four-week gap is a long one, but in one way it's good because it gives our players, who have been on the bench, the chance to get game-time with their clubs."
