CIVIL SERVICE

OUR first team took a big step forward in the Junior Hurling Grade C Championship with an important win away to Parnell's on Sunday. Both sides were well-drilled in the pre-match warm-up and the first half was competitive and fast moving. While we enjoyed the majority of play and had whatever advantage came from a light breeze on our back, we only led by 1 point at half-time. However, in the second half, the home side only managed 2 points. We closed all their efforts in attack and picked off our scores to secure a comfortable victory. Well done to all concerned. This builds on the recent victory against Olaf's and, with the team returning towards full strength, it sets us up well to prepare for the knockout stages. Unfortunately, the 2nd team's visit to Lucan Sarsfields was not so successful. Despite a creditable second half revival, it was not enough to recover the home side's dominance. Training as usual on Monday and Wednesday evening in Islandbridge at 7pm. Off the pitch, our "Night at the Dogs" Fundraiser is scheduled for Harold's Cross on 17th July. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

CLANNA GAEL FONTENOY

DESPITE putting in a good performance, particularly in the second half, our senior hurling team couldn't do enough to get the better of Raheny in the Championship over the weekend. Still, they delivered a very commendable performance against a team that plays in a higher league division and recorded some fine scores throughout - not least two particularly fine goals in the second half. Off the field of play, the way is set for this year's Summer Camps, which will run in July and August. Packed with activities that include football and hurling skills, obstacle courses and fun games, this year's Camps will offer plenty for ages 4-12. The schedule is: Week 1 - 20-24 July; Week 2 - 27-31 July [Cúl Camp] and Week 3 - 10-14 August. Running from 10am-2.30pm each day (2pm last day), the cost is €60 per child with €10 discount for siblings. Visit www.clannagaelfontenoy.ie to register online or contact Claireryan.gpo@gmail.com. The following numbers drawn on the 8th June did not produce a winner for a Jackpot of €9,800: 4, 9, 20 and 27. The Jackpot goes ever higher to the magical €10,000 figure.

CLONTARF

TEAM of the Week goes to our junior hurlers, who qualified for the F Championship quarter-finals with a fine victory over Na Gaeil Oga (2-17 to 0-7). Almost 400 boys and girls took part and special thanks to Jack, Sarah, Katie and Paddy, our Dubs who presented the medals on the day. The club is staging a Golf Classic in St Anne's Golf Club on Thursday July 2nd. We are asking all our juvenile and adult groups to please enter a team. FOXROCK/CABINTEELY

AFTER a few years' absence, the club's Family Day will be back bigger and better than ever before. The organising committee of Denise Connor, Naomi Murphy, Mags Walshe, Linda Carroll, Colette O'Keefe and Keith Hughes have been working tirelessly for the last month on the event. All that hard work will come to fruition on Sunday next at 2pm in Kilbogget. There'll be lots of activities for the young and the not-so-young and a fun and enjoyable day is assured. The highlight of day will undoubtedly be the Cornerstone Cup, when a combination of the minor and junior teams take on the mentors and parents. Following the Cornerstone Cup, club members will be treated to some more top class football when the Dublin Minor team take on our senior team in a challenge game. This will be a very useful workout for both teams, but particularly for the Dublin minors as they prepare for the All-Ireland semi-final. Members are no doubt aware that we have 3 Foxrock/Cabinteely players on the Dublin minor team, so we look forward to seeing Ciara Crotty, Hannah O'Neill and Tarah O'Sullivan do battle against their club mates. The throw-in for this game is at 6:45pm. Wednesday June 10th was the hottest day of the year so far and was a perfect setting for the Annual Primary School Blitz. 10 teams in total took part with Holly Park supplying 4 teams, and Johnstown and St Brigid's supplying 3 teams each. The competition started at 1:15pm in Group 3. A fantastic display by both teams saw Johnstown take the points. The games in Groups 1 and 2 started at 1:30pm. In the end the day belonged to Holly Park, but without doubt, the overall winner on the day was the sportsmanship and courtesy shown by all teams.

WELL done our Junior B hurlers, who brought St Kevin's to Blunden Drive and defeated them in their Championship match on Sunday. It was a game of skill and our side outclassed and outplayed the other. Our MOT was Brian Og Carton, but with an all-round great team performance by A Byrne, K Kimmage, M Healy and the rest, it was a hard call. Our U13 footballers were also at home and winning when they took on Kilmacud Crokes in the league and beat them by a single goal. Better late than never, we acknowledge our U11 hurlers that won the Shield Final in a Tournament in Ballyboden last week. The lads played so well, they should be enlisted immediately onto the Dublin squad. On the subject of a Dublin squad, although they lost, we are very proud of our U14 player Leo Lacey, who performed admirably in their county game over the weekend. We wish 'all the best' to local principals Máire Ní Mhaolalaí (St Paul's) and Antoinette Nic Gearailt (Donahies Community School), who both decided to hang up their mortarboards and cloaks and head for pastures green. ST FINIAN'S, SWORDS

OUR adult hurling teams were both in action in their respective Championships this weekend. Our first team had a loss in their match against St Mark's, making their next game in the round-robin series a 'must win' match. The second team were successful on Sunday, in their tie against Kilmacud Crokes. This result continues a good run of form from a team containing a nice mix of experience and youth, best illustrated by our goalscorers being John Walsh and Conor Lennon. We must congratulate the girls from Holy Family SNS, who managed to win both of their camogie and football finals in Croke Park and Parnell Park this week. This completed a remarkable couple of weeks for most of the girls, who were also part of St Finian's league winning U13 girls' teams.
