BALLYBODEN ST ENDA'S

OUR heroes of the week this week come from our U15 team, who went above and beyond, with what their manager described as "the gutsiest" display they ever produced. Take a large bow, you are our heroes of the week. Our U10 girls also had a great weekend, taking part in a blitz in Naomh Olaf and playing 3 great games. Best for our team were Beth Winders and Molly Scanlon. Our U11 boys also had a great day on Saturday with 2 great games away to Parnell's, with Gareth McCormack and Cian Nolan to the fore. But pride of place this week goes to our U15 team. They won their Championship game after extra-time, with magic displays from the full-back line of Eamon Hill, Sean Tuke and Cian Fagan. Special mention though for Darragh Conlon, who was powerful driving his team on to the win, with maturity beyond his years and superb skills. Next up for the lads in Naomh Mearnog at home on Sunday the 28th. Well done lads. Hard luck to our minor footballers, who were beaten on Sunday away to Ballyboden in Championship after being reduced to 14 men. Boden pulled away, despite great performances from Dean O'Brien, Carl Keeley, Aaron Elliot and Dillon Keating. Gym for the lads is Wednesday at 7pm followed by pitch at 8.15pm. Congratulations to Jim O'Reilly on winning the All-Ireland tickets at our recent golf outing draw. A huge congratulations to our very own Paddy Christie, who has now been officially ratified as Dublin minor manager for the coming season. We have no doubt that Paddy will be successful. The whole club is proud and honoured by this appointment. Very best wishes to our senior footballers, who face Fingal Ravens on Saturday at 5.30pm in Parnell Park in Championship.
THE Intermediate Football Championship Quarter-Final takes place this Saturday in Balgriffin against Sylvester's. Throw-in is at 5.15pm and loads of support is needed. Both U15 boys' footballers got their Championship campaigns off to a great start with victories on Sunday morning. The first team came from a point down with 5 minutes remaining to win by 3 points against Clontarf. The second team also won their game v Ballyboden St Enda's by 7 points. The next round of games will take place on Sunday 28th September 2014. The club would like to pass on their sincere condolences to the O'Keeffe family, on the passing of Bernard's father, Bernard Senior. It was a great day for Castleknock with 3 of our U14 camogie girls on Sunday representing Dublin in the All-Ireland Camogie Blitz in Croke Park. All 3 played some great camogie with 2 of the girls making it to the Blitz Final. Well done to Ciara, Lauren and Meadbh. Lots of camogie and football throughout the girls section this week. Special mention to our U9 and U12 girls' football teams on their excellent performances this weekend in their wins against Clontarf and Ballyboden respectively. There was more evidence of great club spirit this weekend with our bag pack in Tesco. Thanks to all for helping out but a special mention to Breda Griffin for all her work in organising this event. The Nursery is on every Saturday morning at 10am in Tír Na nÓg, with the club shop also open at the same time. Please continue to send in all tax donation and bond scheme forms for the Clubhouse Fund, as we look to push on after the awarding of the sports capital grant recently. There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot, which now stands at €4,200.
OUR first team played Kevin's at Dolphin Park on Sunday morning with valuable AHL6 points at stake. We got off to a sluggish start and conceded an early goal but got into our stride and thanks to a Conor McCarthy goal we were 2 points ahead at half time, 1-7 to 1-5. There was little between the teams in the second half, where Kevin's got back on level terms but we pushed on and were 4 points ahead with 2 minutes to go. However, a late goal by Kevin's came from a defensive mix up under a high ball with sun in our eyes and a point from a free that came from the breaking ball in the ensuing puck left the sides tied at the final whistle, 1-15 to 2-12. Instead of competing for promotion we are unfortunately on the fringes of a relegation battle involving a number of clubs including our next opponents, St Jude's. The second team's encounter with Lucan was deferred due to our opponent's Championship commitments. On a different pitch, the recent annual Golf Society Captain's Day outing proved a resounding success. 35 golfers came under starter's orders on a beautiful evening at Palmerstown House, Johnstown with a few more joining us for the Captain's Dinner later that evening. Current player Paul Kelly won the overall prize including the Seamus Haugh Trophy with a score of 38 points playing off 17 finishing ahead of Peter Scully in 2nd place. Other prize winners included (Front Nine) Ger Power; (Back Nine) Pat Hanafin; (Nearest the Pin on Front Nine) Dick Curtin; (Nearest the Pin Back Nine) Jim Power and (Longest Drive) James Connors. This week the Committee will finalise the result of our recent All Ireland Score Predictions and details will be in these notes next week.
THERE was no winner of this week's Lucky Dip. Numbers drawn 20-21-24-34. Next week's Jackpot is €1,910. St Peter's minors were defeated in their first round of championship by St Finian's. We are calling on all club members to make sure that you keep Sunday 28th of September free and go to Croke Park to support Carla and Dublin Ladies in the All-Ireland Final. Tickets are €25 for adult and €5 for children. It doesn't come around too often that one of our own is playing in an All-Ireland Final. So make sure to keep the day free.
CLANNA GAEL FONTENOY
THE club is proud to have been selected by Croke Park as just one of 10 locations nationwide for a national pilot programme called 'Play to Stay'. Targeted at boys between the ages of 12-21, this pilot programme aims to explore new ways of ensuring that as many people as possible opt to 'play to stay with the GAA'. The selection of Clanns is unique in that it's the only one in Dublin and is actually the only club selected - all other centres are schools based. Starting on Friday 26th September and running for 24 weeks thereafter, the programme will be delivered at the club and at each of the other nine Super Games Centres throughout the country. Each Centre will run a one-hour session of games each Friday evening for boys between the ages of 12-16. It is intended to expand the programme for girls in due course. The programme is free and is open to all irrespective of skill level. So our club looks forward to welcoming participants from all over the city, including those who have yet to play Gaelic games and those who have but have already dropped out for whatever reason. Further information about the initiative is available at www.gaa.ie/playtostay and information about free registration to participate at Clanna Gael Fontenoy is available from email@example.com or 087-2124370. Congratulations to one of our U13 hurlers, Karl Morgan, who was selected as one of three finalists of the GAA/GPA Hurling Freestyle competition and who got to show his skills at half-time during the All-Ireland Hurling Final. Congratulations also to Serena Hannon from the club's adult section who, for the third year running, won the Kick Fada competition at the Bray Emmets club over the weekend.

Commiserations to our U15 footballers, losing out in both Championship games against Castleknock and Lucan. Our U13 footballers had a great run in the prestigious Lee Strand Tournament in Tralee on Saturday, narrowly exiting in the semi-final. Many thanks to Austin Stacks GAA, who kindly hosted the boys for 2 nights. Our U12 hurlers defeated top of the table OPER in what was a terrific display. The U13s also defeated Margaret's in a top of the table clash. Our U10s had a great Saturday, defeating Crokes and Castleknock. Our U9 hurlers chiselled out a narrow win over a gallant Parnell's. APOLOGIES to those who travelled to Ballyfermot for the Minor B Championship opener, it was cancelled as we were about to travel and we could not notify everyone, sorry. The Minor A team had the narrowest defeat away to St Maur's in their first championship round-robin match. Congratulations to St Ibar's Shelmaliers CC, who have been crowned SE Systems Kilmacud Crokes Camogie 7s Champions for the first time in their history. They beat Oulart-The Ballagh Gaa 5-5 to 3-8 in the final. Congratulations to the second senior hurling team, who progress to the Senior B Championship Final after beating Naomh Fionnbarra 0-17 to 0-11. Hard luck to the Junior A hurlers, who lost today's Championship Semi-final to St Jude's by one point. And the Junior F Hurling Championship? Johnny Maher, with no game because of the Minor B football walkover, delivers 9 points, including the winner, for a one-point away victory at Clontarf. We would like to congratulate clubman Daire Brennan on the launch of a new quiz book that he has put together. A great achievement, well done. In the U15D Championship, our lads had a one-goal victory, while the A team spurned a four-point lead and too many chances to narrowly lose to Ballyboden, who comfortably defeated them in the league two weeks ago. Great defence and great goalkeeping wasn't enough to deliver that elusive levelling point in the last ten minutes. In a high-scoring C Championship, the boys had 1-1 to spare away to Whitehall. FBD7s: Thanks for the great support for the launch in the club on Thursday, a great club day. The groups and teams have been announced and your help and support on the day would be greatly appreciated.
THE Executive Committee would like to say a huge thanks to all of the parents, mentors, players and children who helped make our Family Day a fantastic success. A special thanks to the group of parents who organised the whole day. Your time and effort is really appreciated. WHAT a superb win for our senior hurlers in the Championship away to Na Fianna on Saturday. The lads stunned the home supporters into silence, winning by 9 points. "Get well soon" is the message for Liam Ryan, who sustained an injury during the game. It was a great comeback and a massive win for our U15 boys against Finbar's in their Championship game. The lads were 12 points behind with only 20 minutes to go. It was heart-stopping stuff as O'Toole's took control, playing as a single unit, winning by a remarkable 4 points in the end. Our amazing U12 girls played great team football as they recorded another victory over Whitehall. For further details and tickets call Natasha on 087-7525850. There was no winner of our Lotto Jackpot this week, with numbers drawn 17, 19, 23 & 25. €50 went to Wilbur with €25 going to M Farrell and C Whelan. Next week's Jackpot will be €1,450. Match Results: The U13s travelled to Naomh Olaf on Saturday with Olaf 1 point ahead at the top of the league table. Towers started slowly, and went 8 points down after 15 minutes. We composed ourselves and with 2 late goals the sides went in level at the break. The second half was a fantastic turnaround and with seconds left Towers struck the net to secure a 5-point victory. The U13 girls had a great win over Skerries Harps at home on Saturday, with a great team effort by all. Players of the Match were Sonia Boylan and Eimear Hanlon. Towers U16 girls edged out Clontarf in a pulsating championship match in Lusk on Sunday. Towers started strongly and got some nice early scores against a crisp breeze, but let Clontarf back into the game with some lapses in concentration. It took an excellent goal from Georgia Shanley to grasp the game back for Towers, which was quickly followed by an opportunistic goal from Lauren O'Brien to give Towers a flattering lead of two points at half-time. It took some staunch defending by Ciara Curran, Alannah Harford and Davina Neary to stem the Clontarf onslaught, with Jessie Grimes and Aideen Rafferty hitting them on the breaks to secure a hard-fought victory. Disappointment for our minors also, with a loss to Thomas Ashe.
