CIVIL SERVICE

NEXT Sunday 15th March we have two fixtures in the opening round of the Dublin Adult Hurling Leagues. In AHL6 our first team plays St Sylvester's at Broomfield in Malahide at 12pm. Anyone unsure of that location should check with any of the lads that played there in championship last year in what was probably our best performance of the year. Our second team then plays Na Fianna at Islandbridge at 2.30pm in AHL9. It is always a challenge, particularly on the first day of competition, to organise two teams in two locations. Members are asked to please respond to Teamer requests to confirm their availability and be at the correct venue with proper gear 45 minutes before the throw-in. In terms of hurling, our challenge game against Skerries on Sunday 8th March in Islandbridge reminded us of the amount of work to be done on fitness, skills and match strategy if we are to be competitive in the season ahead. Despite the visitors' victory, we had a few positives from the game - three players made their debut for the club, some well-taken goals and good team spirit. Training continues as usual in the gym in Islandbridge Mondays at 7pm until the clocks change and on the pitch skills and fitness session on Wednesday at 7pm under lights. Any members who have yet to pay their annual subscription should do so straight away.

CLANNA GAEL FONTENOY

CONGRATULATIONS to our club manager, Shay Connolly, who received a Seán Moore Community Award for services to the local community. In the award citation, journalist, Roisín Ingle aptly summed up Shay in one word - passion: whether passion for the GAA through his work for the club and his representation of the club at all levels in the wider community; or passion for the community he serves through his involvement in a host of other projects to promote people welfare. She also referenced his real and deep understanding of the people of Ringsend and further afield. Congratulations also to our U10 hurlers, who graced Croke Park during the half-time interval in the Dublin v Cork hurling fixture on Saturday. It was a great experience for the players, mentors and parents alike and all thoroughly enjoyed it - even if the result didn't go the way of the Dubs. Well done to our U15 ladies, who got off to a flying start in the Division 2 league with a fantastic win over Naomh Olaf; and to our intermediate footballers for their fine win over St Finbarr's in the league. The following Club Lotto numbers did not produce a winner for the Jackpot of €7,000 - 4, 8, 10 and 22 and the jackpot increases to €7,200. Finally, new players are most welcome at all times and the Club Directory for the various team contacts is on the website at http://clannagaelfontenoy.ie/.
