CIVIL SERVICE

Both of our teams were in league action last week. Our first team defeated Kilmacud Crokes in AHL6 on Tuesday in Islandbridge with a final scoreline of 1-18 to 0-10. The visitors were not as strong as the team that beat us in JHC C the previous week and opted to play 13-a-side, a format that sometimes causes problems for us. However, we got stuck in from the start, had built a reasonable lead by half time and maintained that momentum into the second half with the forwards taking their scoring chances in open play, accurate free taking and tight defending that blocked repeated efforts by Kilmacud to run through on goal. Our second team travelled to Blakestown to play St Peregrines on Wednesday. A young Peregrines side was full of running on a hot sunny evening and we struggled for pace in some key areas but there was little between us on the scoreboard throughout. At full time we were left to regret some of our missed chances and conceding two goals direct from frees in losing by 3-13 to 3-11. Our next round of competitive AHL fixtures are over 2 weeks away but members have been asked to give solid commitment to training now that we are now preparing for championship quarter finals. Some challenge fixtures are likely in the coming weeks, the first on Tuesday 29th July when we take on Oliver Plunketts at Islandbridge at 7.15pm. For more information on our club activities see our website www.civilservicehurlingclub.ie.

The kids all had a brilliant time and without the efforts of Peter, Kevin, all coaches, helpers and volunteers that did anything throughout the week your work and effort has not gone unnoticed and is very much appreciated. On Wednesday night our Ladies team were crowned Dublin Junior Championship winners 2014. The Ladies beat St Maur's on a score line of 3-13 to 8points.Pictures of the match can be viewed on www.gaapics.com. Well done to all involved. CLANNA GAEL FONTENOY

CONGRATULATIONS to our Intermediate Footballers who had a great league win during the week over St Vincents in a final score line of 0-15 to 1-8. This result follows hot on the heels of equally impressive league wins by our Junior Footballers over Ballyfermot DLS and St Monicas, leaving them at the top of their division with two games remaining. The lads deserve particular credit for these results following, as they did, a heartbreaking end to a great cup in losing out to Finbarrs in the quarter final. Leading by a single point with only a minute left to play, Clanns conceded a free which saw the opposition score a goal to snatch victory. Meanwhile, in their last game of the league, and a must win game at that, our Minor Footballer had an emphatic win against Cuala, thus securing second place and a place in the semi-final. Well done lads. Off the field of play, the following lotto numbers drawn for a jackpot of €10,000 did not produce a winner: 7, 28, 29 and 32. To date the Club's Summer Camp and Emerging Talent Camp have been packed with participants and with fun - and the weather hasn't been bad either. The Summer Camp continues with Week 2 running 5th-8th August while Week 3 runs 11th-15th August during the hours of 10.00-14.30hrs each day and at a cost per child of €60 (reductions for second and more children). A recent study by our Lotto committee uncovered a disappointing finding regarding the small number of club members playing the Club Lotto on a regular basis. Consequently, we must assume the majority of tickets are bought by our supporters and neighbours, a tribute to our standing in the community. The lotto is essential to the club's finances and is the easiest way for members to assist in club fundraising, while also having a chance to win a substantial prize on a weekly basis. Lotto envelopes can be found in the clubhouse, the post office, shops and Peacocks, while the on-line purchase of tickets atwww.stfinians.com allows you to take part without leaving the house. Tickets can also be 'gifted' to family or friends through the online system. If you're not in you can't win. The Summer Camps are coming up in August and places are filling up fast. Registration can be completed in the clubhouse or through the link on our homepage www.stfinians.com.
