Save Hibernian Insurance jobs

Search

Tuesday July 01 2008

ON MONDAY 23 June it was announced that Hibernian 'will re-organise its buisness to increase operational efficiencies', with up to 580 jobs being outsourced to India.

From the employees' point of view the only reason we can see for this move is corporate greed. Hibernian made a total operating profit for 2007 of €352.9 million; a rise of 86pc against last year's profit.

Since the announcement, employees have had very little information with regards to how this outsourcing is going to work, only that 80 positions will go to Bangalore in January, with a further 500 bring phased our over a three-year period.

We have been told that this will result from 'natural wastage' aka staff turnover. But what if staff do not want to leave? Will we be forced out?

To add insult to injury, it turns out that we have already been training Indian staff in our jobs and have been told we will be required to train them further -- it appears Hibernian management want us to train ourselves out of our own jobs!

It may be 580 jobs now in Hibernian but who's to say more won't go from here and then other companies might follow their example.

This is not just a fight for Hibernian jobs; it is a fight to save Irish jobs. The Government can stop this if they want to.
