'Pikey' is never an acceptable term

The BBC has found that a complaint against Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson (inset) was unfounded. No, not that complaint. This has nothing to do with the 'fracas' for which Jeremy is suspended. This has to do with a slot in which Clarkson erected a sign beside a track on which was written 'Pikey's Peak' (a joke based on a famous motorsports track called Pike's Peak.) Complaints arrived saying 'Pikey' was an abusive term for Gypsy or Traveller. Not so said the BBC. The term has evolved, they say. Bull. The word 'knacker' refers to someone who renders horses but is so commonly used as a pejorative for 'traveller' that it can't be used anymore. It's the same for 'Pikey'. The BBC should know that.
