Editorial: Stay safe on roads this weekend
THE October bank holiday weekend will see hundreds of thousands of us taking to the roads for a well-earned break.
Others will stay closer to home, but will be out and about socialising.
We can only hope that we will not see the spate of road fatalities that has blighted so many other holiday weekends.
Young men in particular need to examine their driving habits.
It is a stark fact that half of all road deaths are in the 16 to 30 age group, and 75pc of those are male.
We would also urge young people to make good choices this weekend about who they accept lifts from.
Don't get into cars that are too crowded, or with anyone who has been drinking.
And young drivers should make the responsible choice -- if drinking even one, park the car and pocket the keys.
This is a dangerous time of year on the roads as it is darker and colder.
Don't become a tragic headline.
